True Fatherhood

Fatherhood according to God is much more than just providing. It is an opportunity for fathers to influence their children positively and bring them closer to God. Fathers are given the honor of being a spiritual leader in their family, and they should be encouraged to do so.

The Bible speaks often about fatherless people, and encourages us as believers to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,” (Proverbs 31:8) as well as to “defend the cause of the fatherless.” (Isaiah 1:17). We are reminded in Ephesians 6:4 that fathers have a responsibility to bring their children “up in the training and instruction of the Lord”. Fathers have a great opportunity to be a role model, encouraging their children to put God first in their lives.

God has not only given fathers the responsibility of leading their family spiritually, but also the power to do so! He longs for us to trust Him as we reach out to fatherless people in our community, providing a reminder of God’s great love. Fathers are the key to building better generations and to breaking the cycle of fatherlessness.

God calls fathers into action and trusts that they have what it takes to make a difference in their children’s lives. Through faith in Him, fathers can become strong spiritual leaders and bring joy to their families. Fathers everywhere can find the strength they need in Psalm 23:4, which says “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” With God at their side, fathers will be equipped to lead their families well.

Fatherhood has the potential to be a powerful tool in bringing our world closer to God. Let’s take this opportunity to encourage and support fathers everywhere in stepping up into the role of spiritual leader God has given them!
