Good vs Bad Leadership

Righteous leadership of a nation is important for the prosperity of its people. The Bible says in Proverbs 11:14, “Where no guidance is, the people fall: but in multitude of counselors there is safety.” This verse indicates that wise counsel should be sought when making decisions concerning a nation and its people.

The Bible also provides examples of what can happen when unrighteous leaders take the reins. In Isaiah 1:23, God speaks about a nation that has gone astray because its leaders have decided to do what was evil in His sight. He says, “Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.” This passage shows us that when leaders are unrighteous and only motivated by profit and power, they cannot effectively lead their nation in a godly way.

Ultimately, it is essential for nations to have leaders who are righteous and wise, who seek the counsel of God when making decisions. Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” This passage highlights that a nation can have great joy and peace with leaders who seek to fulfill God’s will, but it can have sorrow and strife with leaders who are wicked.

When seeking wise counsel to help in governing a nation, the Bible should be consulted as it provides many examples of righteous leadership that can be emulated. Proverbs 14:34 affirms, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” This verse encourages us to seek righteous leaders who can lead the nation in a godly way, rather than unrighteous individuals whose only aim is personal gain.

It is clear then that having righteous leadership in a nation is essential for the welfare of its people and its prosperity. Nations should look to the Bible for examples of wise leadership, and seek out leaders who will be motivated by godliness rather than selfishness. Doing so will ensure that the nation is blessed with peace, safety and joy.
