The Bible speaks strongly and clearly about the importance of protecting children, and how harming them is especially abhorrent in God’s eyes.
In Matthew 18:6 Jesus says “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
In Psalm 127:3-5, we read “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”
God has created each and every child with purpose and value, making it our responsibility to honor and protect them. We must strive to ensure the physical, emotional, and spiritual safety of all children. Let us remember that we have been called as God’s beloved children, and so our actions should reflect the love of Christ as we care for those who are younger than ourselves.
God’s Word makes it clear that He takes seriously the protection of His children. In Deuteronomy 24:16, He says “Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall the children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin.” This is an important reminder that we must take responsibility for our own sins and not transfer it onto others, especially innocent children. We must work towards eliminating any form of harm or abuse, and strive to uphold a standard of justice in the world. Let us honor God by protecting those He has called His own—our children.
Let us pray that through our actions, we may bear witness to God’s grace and protection for all of His beloved children. May we seek His wisdom as we strive to create a world where children can live safely and without fear. Amen.
