Spiritual Egypt and Spiritual Goshen are two places mentioned in the Bible that serve as a metaphor for existing within the world system versus trusting and obeying God.
In the Old Testament, Israel was enslaved in Physical Egypt until God freed them through Moses. This physical freedom is often compared to our spiritual freedom through Jesus Christ. In similar fashion, Spiritual Goshen refers to God protecting His people from destruction. In the story of Exodus, God protected the Israelites in Goshen while Egypt was plagued with ten devastating plagues.
Today, even though we live in a world system that is filled with fears and anxieties, we have assurance of protection by our Lord and Savior. In Romans 8:31, it says, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” God promises to keep His people safe – even in times of uncertainty.
God encourages us throughout scripture to focus our attention on Him and not the worries of the world system. In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus tells us not to worry about what we will eat or drink, or even our lives. He says in verse 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
God has promised to protect His people and provide peace in times of distress. By following Jesus and living out His teachings, we can experience true protection from the fears of the world system. As Psalm 118:6 says, “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.” We can have confidence that our Lord and Savior has us protected in Spiritual Goshen from the fears over the world system today.
